LETTER: Government is not meeting bed bug crisis in community

Dear Editor,

Re “Kingston mayor says city is addressing bed bug issue,” June 1, 2016: It is a mayoral illusion.

As a matter of fact, the city of Kingston, N.Y., has not addressed the bed bug epidemic and a large group of more than 15 health and human service organizations decided to create a Bed Bug Coalition to begin dealing with this pervasive problem. The Mayor’s Office and Health Department have stonewalled the efforts of the coalition and are not protecting the public. Local pest exterminators have revealed that they have already treated the police station, the hospital, the city bus service (and other locations) and countless private residences in and around Kingston.

If our local government did address this crisis, the Bed Bug Coalition of Ulster County would not have had to take the matter into their own hands.
